As part of this development, we demolished a former local eye-sore to make way for 67 new homes, helping to grow the number of people living in the town centre.

The Georgian Mill site, which had lain derelict since a fire destroyed the buildings in 2011, is now transformed by the new ‘Crossings’ scheme.

Stylish, quality affordable homes

Working with Peaks & Plains Housing Trust, Rowlinson has completed a range of high quality and stylish one, two and three-bedroom apartments, featuring internal and external communal space.

With part-funding from Homes England, the new homes come with a choice of tenures – rent, buy, and shared ownership.

An array of features

The build spans two blocks and features a large open plan communal foyer and garden room. Each building has been fitted with rooftop photovoltaic panels to provide sustainably sourced electricity to the communal areas.

The development features smart technology such as app-controlled heating and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. An electric vehicle charging point, that can serve up to two vehicles, is housed within the 23-bay parking space, together with a cycle store for residents.

New housing offer in Macclesfield

In partnership with Homes England, Crossings is the first residential scheme of this scale to be completed by Chalk, the development arm of Peaks & Plains Housing Trust.

Mark Howden, chief executive of Peaks & Plains Housing Trust, said: “Crossings represents an important milestone in our development plans to meet housing need and changing lifestyles.”

David Chilton, managing director of Rowlinson, said: “We know just how eager many people have been to see progress on the site. The development brings forward a new vibrant housing offer, encouraging more people to live in the town centre, which is an important step forward for Macclesfield’s future.”

Crossings is less than five minutes’ walk from Macclesfield train station, and is surrounded by an array of shops, bars and restaurants that encapsulate the proud independent spirit of the town.
