Rowlinson has started work building a new extra care facility, on behalf of Southway Housing, at Abbey Hey Lane, Gorton, Manchester.
The scheme forms part of Southway Housing’s age-friendly offer and will provide 106 one and two bedroom apartments for social rent, available to people over 55 years old.
Alongside the new homes, the development features a community café, communal gardens, a residents’ lounge, a treatment room and reception area.
A raft of increased environmental and energy saving measures, such as ground source heating and electric car charging points, will make the building around a third more efficient meaning lower bills and carbon emissions.
David Chilton, managing director, Rowlinson said, “There’s no doubt that there’s a need for good quality extra care housing and Rowlinson is committed to delivering it.”
“This development helps fill the gap in the market for good quality housing to support older people, allowing them to remain independent but with a range of support on offer, should they need it.”
Work on Gorton extra care is due to complete in summer 2021.
This scheme, together with the extra care development at The Depot on the former Stagecoach site in Manchester, sees Rowlinson working on two of the four priority extra care schemes in Greater Manchester.
