Silk Street delivery & support

Community engagement

Rowlinson is currently on site building 69 new eco-friendly social homes at Silk Street in Newton Heath for Manchester City Council.

As well as delivering the new homes, staff are always keen to support the community and recently helped the neighbouring Sure Start nursery with some outdoor improvements.

We’ve had positive feedback from the children and staff

Using surplus materials, the team made garden benches and an outdoor sand pit as well as carrying out general maintenance and tidying. All the work was completed when the nursery was closed.

David Chilton, managing director of Rowlinson said: “We’re pleased to be able to support the community in this way. Most importantly, the real test has been passed with positive feedback from the children and staff.”

The Silk Street development will bring a long-term under-used brownfield site back into use, creating 36 one-bedroom apartments; 12 two-bedroom apartments; 17 two storey three-bedroom houses; and 4 three storey four-bedroom houses while 16 of the apartments will be available to people over the age of 55. All the homes will be available for affordable social rent.

The scheme build is currently underway.
