New affordable homes in New Islington

Rowlinson has started work on a new affordable, mixed tenure development near to Downley Drive in New Islington, East Manchester on behalf of Great Places Housing Group.

Designed by Buttress, the scheme will deliver 68 homes, made up of 23 two and three-bedroom houses, and 45 one and two-bedroom apartments within a four-storey building.

The site is positioned next to the canal and borders the popular areas of New Islington and Ancoats.

A flagship low carbon development

In line with Manchester City Council’s carbon reduction ambitions the homes are designed with sustainability in mind with a low carbon specification including air source heat pumps and enhanced insulation. There will also be associated landscaping plus parking for cars with electric vehicle charging points and cycle stores.

Helping to meet defined housing need in the area, there will be homes available for social rent, and shared ownership.

Housing tenure breakdown:

• 23 for shared ownership – 3 two-bedroom houses and 20 three-bedroom houses

• 45 for social rent – 22 one-bedroom apartments, and 23 two-bedroom apartments
