New affordable homes in New Islington
Rowlinson is the construction partner for a new affordable, mixed tenure development near to Downley Drive in New Islington, East Manchester, on behalf of Great Places Housing Group.
Designed by Buttress, the scheme will deliver 75 new homes, made up of 23 houses, and 52 apartments within a four-storey building.
The site is positioned next to the canal bordering the popular areas of New Islington and Ancoats.
Flagship development
The scheme is a flagship low carbon development for Great Places and is in line with Manchester City Council’s carbon reduction ambitions.
All the homes are designed with sustainability in mind with a low carbon specification including air source heat pumps and enhanced insulation.
There will also be associated landscaping plus parking for cars with electric vehicle charging points and cycle stores.
A range of tenures
The scheme is made up of a range of tenures in line with the needs of the local community:
23 shared ownership homes – 3 x two-bedroom houses and 20 x three-bedroom houses
52 social rent homes – 27 x one-bedroom apartments, and 25 x two-bedroom apartments
Progress
The houses completed in summer 2024 and are now occupied.
Work in the apartment block is ongoing.
Following the groundworks and foundations, a light weight steel frame will then be installed. This frame is manufactured off site, delivered to site in sections and then assembled.
