Rowlinson has completed the delivery of 14 new affordable homes at Woodhouse Lane in Wythenshawe, working in partnership with Wythenshawe Community Housing Group.
Transforming the site of the former British Legion, the development brings forward a high-quality residential scheme designed to meet local housing demand, with customers now beginning to move in.
The scheme provides a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments, including homes designed to be wheelchair accessible. A lift and secure gated access have also been incorporated, creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for residents.
All 14 apartments have achieved an Energy Performance Certificate rating of A, reflecting a strong focus on sustainability. Energy-efficient features include solar photovoltaic panels, air source heat pumps and modern ventilation systems, helping to reduce energy consumption, lower running costs and create comfortable homes.
The development also supports wider housing needs by offering a modern option for customers choosing to rightsize. This helps to free up larger family homes for others in the local community.
In recognition of the site’s history, a commemorative plaque has been installed at the entrance, alongside a silhouette of a soldier within the building, paying tribute to the British Legion and its long-standing contribution to the area.
David Chilton, Chief Executive Officer at Rowlinson, said: These homes have sustainability and affordability at their heart. The energy-efficient features will help to reduce energy consumption and, importantly, keep running costs down, helping to deliver long-term value for residents.”
The scheme reinforces the value of strong partnership working in bringing forward developments that respond to both housing demand and wider community priorities.
Andrea Lowman, Executive Director of Development, Wythenshawe Community Housing Group, commented: “We are delighted to work in partnership with Homes England, Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Manchester City Council, Rowlinson and the design team to deliver our first bespoke ‘rightsizing’ scheme for Wythenshawe. The scheme highlights the strength of partnership working in delivering developments that respond to both housing demand and wider community priorities.
“The homes will be a new beginning for customers who are struggling to look after a larger home, creating a safe, manageable, energy efficient place to live.”
